Help Save Balikpapan Bay

I've highlighted the imminent destruction of the Balikpapan Bay bio-diversity corridor a few times in the past two and a half years: here, and here, and here, and here.

Put very simply, any expansion of the Kariangau Industrial Zone would silt up the bay, thus reducing access to the industrial complex by sea (go figure!), would destroy forest cover and mangroves (and the livelihoods of the fishermen who depend on them - watch this video), and thereby cause the loss of habitat to such listed endangered species as dugongs and sun bears.

A petition has been organised to be sent to the DPRD (the regional legislature) of East Kalimantan which has the power to approve or veto the plan.

Please sign it.

Thanks!

Update
Stan Lhota has sent this link to the English-subtitled version of the new Michal Galik film about palm oil in Kalimantan: "It shows many compelling stories from Balikpapan Bay, Mahakam Lakes, Wehea and elsewhere!"
